Root Canal Retreatment

When performed with precision, initial endodontic treatment has a very high success rate. In certain cases, however, residual infection may persist within complex or previously untreated areas of the root canal system. When this occurs, revision of the original treatment—known as root canal retreatment—may be recommended.

At Advanced Endodontics Center, root canal retreatment is a well-established and routinely performed procedure. Retreatment typically involves carefully removing the existing root canal filling material, thoroughly cleansing and disinfecting the internal spaces of the tooth, and addressing any anatomy that may not have been treated during the initial procedure. With advanced technology and specialized training, retreatment can be performed predictably and with a high level of success.

When appropriate, retreatment is often a more conservative option than extraction, allowing for preservation of the natural tooth while avoiding more invasive and time-intensive replacement procedures.
